Dr. Mark Smith is an Associate of Humanus Solutions and is committed to making a difference in the lives of health care professionals, and the care they deliver to patients.
“We must find ways to help health care providers find more joy in their work,” Mark says. “Medicine has changed so much over the course of my career, and we’ve lost something along the way. Delivering health care is a privilege and an honor and it should be joyful.”
Dr. Smith is a board-certified surgeon and practices part time as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Section at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. He had previously practiced General and Vascular Surgery in a private practice setting for 25 years.

Dr. Smith has an expertise in system quality and performance improvement, peer review, ongoing and focused professional practice evaluation, management of deficient practitioner performance, criteria based privileging, low volume practitioners, ED call and external focused review.
Mark says, “I never expected to work as a consultant. I love being a surgeon and the difference I make for my patients. But I want to do more. I want to help other health care professionals do great work. Consulting gives me opportunities to help entire organizations better serve their patients.”
“When I first encountered Humanus Solutions, I was struck by their approach”, Mark explains. “They help people see work differently; they help leaders connect with people. This is the source failure for so many health care improvements and I was immediately intrigued by the possibility of bringing this work to the medical field.”
